I'm Ready For Ski Season!

Slip n' Slide

SSC kicked off the 2011 year with a SPLASH!
Last Friday there was a MSU football game against Youngstown State [which ended with a MSU vicotry, 28-6] As is tradition, SSC hosted a tailgate but rather than hosting it at the tennis courts at SkiClub Mountain, we hosted it at one of our officers houses.
SSC had by far the largest tailgate off campus beating out the crowds of the surrounding Fraternities and House Parties!
With the scorching HOT temperatures and all of us beautiful people hanging out, we knew we needed a way to keep cool... so why not have a Slip n' Slide!!!???

At first I will admit I was a little unsure if this was a good idea to have one at a tailgate and if anyone would take a ride down, but when standing around in the heat it was definitely hard to resist (OK yes I was a chicken and knew I had to sit for 4 hours with my dad, and did not partake... but I was definitely jealous of everyone else)

Clearly I missed out!

We haven't even had our official membership meeting and SSCers are already showing what to expect this year-- which, as you can see will be a little wet and muddy.
I truly think we had a Spartan Victory due to the tailgate we hosted and all the fun we had!  So in order to have a successful Spartan Football Season, us SSCers need to keep up this pace of having a good time!! So if once again you missed out on the SSC fun.. come to the membership meeting THIS Thursday at 9 p.m. @ N100 in the Business College

Hope all of your bruises have healed.. well at least by Saturday... expect more!

SSC Tailgates

Due to today being the first MSU Football tailgate I've decided to go back in time and take a look at past SSC tailgates... Enjoy! [if you have other past SSC pictures send them my way and maybe they'll be posted next time]

10 Reasons Why YOU Should Be In THE Spartan Ski Club

10. Because we get after it in every aspect... we not only take on the Mountains in Michigan (OK more like hills) and out West but we also are always having a good time.  Even when we are feeling philanthropic we go ALL OUT. In 2008 and 2009 we were actively involved with Relay4Life and just recently we got involved with two other organizations, Challenge Mountain and Battlefield Brawl. As a university organization we do understand that it is important to give back and why not do it in style! I mean after all we do have some of the best 'Style & Behavior'

This past winter we teamed up with the Ohio University Snowcats to teach Autistic and Vision Impaired children how to Ski and Snowboard at Challenge Mountain!

This spring SSC got involved with Battlefield Brawl, The Battlefield Brawl is a flag football tournament to raise funds for Sparrow Hospital Pediatric Neurology.

9. We don't discriminate!! We don't just Ski in SSC, in fact, 2 of the past 4 presidents of SSC were snowboarders! When SSC first started, snowboarding wasn't around-- yes we're that old! So if you're afraid that SSC won't accept you because you stand on one board rather than two.. don't worry, as long as you like to hit the slopes, we don't care how you go down!

8. We all look good naked!

7. We are the original Winter Sports Club at MSU! We have history and we are not going anywhere anytime soon!

6. Tired of seeing the same faces day to day? At SSC it is so easy to branch out get to know someone you may not typically get the opportunity to meet--- look at our current officers for instance-- our majors range from pre-med, education, finance, engineer, advertising,  and criminal justice... this group of people may have never gotten together without SSC!

5. Love getting hooked up?? When you're in SSC you get discounts at local stores such as Moosejaw and Summit Sports! Also, in SSC we always have Rockstar stocked-- perfect for those late night study sessions-- our office is right across the street from the main library at MSU!

4. We have an office-- located at 221 IM West! Always a great place to hang out during those class breaks that you just don't want to go back home for--- watch out for Matt's Corner though...

3.  We have by far the BEST advisor one could ask for, Doc! He's been here since the beginning and knows how to really get after it! If you're still unsure on whether you want to join, come to the meeting and listen to him speak and I'm sure you'll have no more hesitation.

2. You will go on the best trip of your life with SSC! Whether it's the big winter one out West (This year we are going to Breckenridge, CO) or the smaller weekend trips around Michigan, I promise you will have the time of your life!  Don't have any friends that want to go on the trip?-- No worries you'll make 50 new BFF's on the bus ride out West!

1. We're one big dysfunctional family and will always be there to pick you up after you      fall--on and off the mountain!

It's Going To Be Another X-Treme Year

Welcome week has concluded and not only does that mean that classes will begin, but more importantly SSC is back in full swing!
Yesterday we got to meet 100's of FRESH new faces at the 2011 Sparticipation--- or which I will always call, Party at The Aud.  If you missed us, you must not have been there because our station was BUMPIN'--- or as one of our potential new members described us--POPPIN'!  With our New Flag Pole--Thanks Todd-- and Flag blowing in the wind, you could see us for miles! We were passing out our new stickers and of course Rockstar it was a successful day of getting the word about the Best Club at Michigan State University!
So if you are one that wasn't able to talk to us at Sparticipation, don't worry you still have a chance to be in SSC and get all the information regarding this year!
First off, SSC will be hosting our first SSC Tailgate of this 2011 Spartan Football Season as you may or may not know, we typically host our tailgate at the Tennis Courts located near South Complex [across from Case/Wilson] however this first one we are going to be hosting off campus-- so if you are interested in attending just ask one of the many officers or shoot SSC an email at SkiClub@msu.edu!
SECOND!!!!!!!!! we will be hosting our general meeting next week on Thursday, September 8th at 9 p.m. at N100 Business College! So just bring yourself, your friends and $35 and you will get your membership card, T-Shirt, and will be on the OFFICIAL 2011-2012 Mailing List!
ThIrD---- if you can't make it to the general membership meeting we have an office located in 221 IM West [next to the football stadium] and we're open Mon-Thurs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.--- with some gaps due to class scheduling-- swing on by starting the week of September 12th and we should have all the KINKS of Officer Hours worked out!
So summer maybe over, but in all honestly that season is overrated, unless you live in the Arctic where there is snow all year round-- Cause now we are closer to THE best time of year-- Ski Season!
It's going to be a FANNNNNNNTTAAASSSTTTIIIICCC year this year and you aren't going to want to miss out!
